THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND THE UNIVERSE

The Astronomical Institute of the Romanian Academy will celebrate
the
centenary of its Bucharest Observatory in 2008. A meeting with large
international participation will be organized on this
occasion. The topics to be discussed are:
- SY1: History of Romanian
astronomy, and education by astronomy in the European framework
(convener Magda Stavinschi)
- SY2: Celestial mechanics and
astrometry today (conveners Vasile Mioc and Petre Popescu)
- SY3: Dynamics of solar atmosphere
and heliosphere (convener Cristiana Dumitrache)
- SY4: Stellar astrophysics,
extragalactic astronomy, and cosmology (conveners Nedelia Popescu,
Marian Suran, Alexandru Dumitrescu)
They
cover the main areas of the Romanian astronomical research
along these hundred years. The conference will constitute an
opportunity for surveying the most
significant results of the Romanian astronomy, for exchanging ideas,
for
putting the bases of new cooperations.
